- Give a brief plot overview.
The movie is based on a man who goes to the Sleepy Hollow to find out who the serial killer is. The serial killer collects the head of every person he/she kills, so he came to find out who the killer is. There he finds out that the killer or the Headless Horseman is being controlled by a witch who is married to the mayor of Sleepy Hollow. The witch’s key motive is to kill every person related to the mayor’s bloodline so she can have her revenge and the property that the people in the town owns.
2. Compare the two protagonists from Sleepy Hollow + Frankenstein
Ichabod and Victor Frankenstein has a lot of similarities and a lot of differences. One of their key traits is that they are both smart and intelligent, they both have their own creations, their own mechanisms (tools and machinery). Ichabod is more humble and his nature is to help people on the other hand Victor Frankenstein seems like he’s humble and down to earth but his true colors are hidden and his true nature is a more evil, selfish and a judgmental person.
3. Compare the two antagonists
The headless horseman and the creature are both similar they are both monsters and people are terrified of them, the creature killed the Frankenstein bloodline because it wanted revenge for making it so unattractive and society would spurn him for it. The Headless Horseman also killed a lot of people but it was being controlled by the stepmother that was a witch. The difference between the Headless Horseman and the creature is that the creature is more human because it has feelings and wants love and affection and the Horseman just wants his head showing us that the Headless horseman is more of a monster than the creature.
4. Describe the aspects of the setting that you noticed. Reflect on their Gothic nature.
The setting of both the movie and the book is that its dark, usually foggy and spooky. This helps give the theme of horror and in Gothic nature it is usually scary and unwelcoming. Cemeteries, dark, spooky buildings the people who live there shun the main character by closing doors and the windows.
